Happy 85th Birthday Grandma!!

Every year, since I can remember, our family has a pool party at my mom's house on Memorial Day to celebrate my Grandma Dickson's birthday.  This year was no different.  We were blessed with beautiful sunny weather and had a great time celebrating 85 years of Grandma.

Growing up I got to spend a lot of time with my Grandma and Grandpa.  They were always a constant in my life.  Some of my favorite memories are:

  • sittng in their bed eating peach ice cream while watching Lawrence Welk
  • having my own tea pot and cups for my morning hot chocolate
  • making Grandpa his "Sanca" coffee
  • walking to the Del Taco for lunch
  • Grandma taking me to my first tennis lesson.  She loved to play and thought I should also...I did!
  • Swimming in their community pool
  • Wearing Grandma's house dress as a robe
  • Making apple salad and sun ice tea
  • Getting in trouble because while Grandpa was a work Grandma would take me for ice cream.  As soon as Grandpa got home I would tell him....I did not know that it was suppose to be "our little secret"!
  • A trip to Florida and Hawaii with my Grandparents while in elementary school.   Perks of my grandma being a travel agent!
  • Having the entire family come over to decorate their home and tree for Christmas

Tyler's Visit

A few weeks ago my half brother, Tyler, came into town.  He just graduated from ASU with his Masters in Environmental Engineering.  We had not seen each other since before he graduated high school so it had been a LOOOOONG time!

Tyler and his girlfriend Lindsay had some time off and decided to take a quick trip to California.  We were so happy he contact us so we could get together.  They came over for Sunday dinner then we walked around the Dana Point tide pools.  It was a beautiful evening!

Here are some shots we took at the beach:

Thanks for coming over Tyler and Lindsay!

Double A Baseball

Trevor's baseball season was a good one this year.  He had great coaches...Matt Parker, Ryan Jones, Scott Galovan and Josh Hunter.  A powerhouse of Mormon Men!  He played double A on the UCIrvine Anteaters.  Here he is with Coach Matt during our second playoff game (which we won):

This was Trevor's first year of kid pitch baseball.  Before the season started Trevor was convinced he wanted to be a pitcher like his Dad!  He would walk around the house throwing "mock" pitches all the time.  So he started out the season pitching...while he enjoyed it...mom was completely stressed out every time he was on the mound!  He did a great job as pitcher, but as the season progressed it was discovered while playing left field that Trevor had a powerhouse arm.  It was meant to throw distance!

He was able to catch a ball in left field and with one hop throw it all the way to home plate for an out!  Super exciting play!

Then he filled in for the catcher and did a phenomenal job!  Plus he loved the position because it gave him lots of contact with the ball.  So while we played pitcher, third base, short stop and first base.  The positions that best fit him and he played most often starting halfway through the season were catcher and left field.

Way to go Trevor!  Can't wait for Mark Creese Baseball camp so you can improve your skills!

OCMCO

This year Mackenzie decided to join the  Orange County Mormon Choral Organization (OCMCO).  She was part of the Concert Choir (youth).  There is a choir for children and also an adult choir and an orchestra.  If you have never been to one of their performances I would recommend it.  There is a winter show and a spring show at the Segresgtrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa.  The performance is professional grade.
Here is the stage just before they came on to perform:
